Description

The Hairy Horned Landipus is a creature found in deep rainforested areas, usually habitating a territory close to a river or spring. Though primarily land-dwelling and air-breathing, they must keep moist to survive.
They are remarkably difficult to spot with the naked eye, due to being able to blend with their surroundings by rolling in leaflitter and mud. This makes them excellent ambush predators, luring potential prey by leaving foul, rotten fish-smelling mucus deposits as they squirm shambolically through the undergrowth. This particular specimen has been depicted without its camouflage, yet even then its thick, matted fur and branch-like horns help it blend into the undergrowth.
Though short (around 2'-2' 6" in height) and slow (maximum ground speed of 2.5 mph), and wary of larger creatures, the Landipus' bite, delivered by a razor-sharp beak hidden behind a mass of cleaning tendrils, is powerful and highly infectious and it is recommended they are left well alone.

Well, this took longer than expected. Partly due to suffering through yet another bout of flu, partly because it just gave me so much trouble, including having to create a few new custom brushes. Oddly, the thing I'm most pleased about right now is the background, which through some serious experimentation came out as a very convincing watercoloured effect. Backgrounds are not something I really think about when I'm doing concept work but I just thought the little guy needed a sense of place.
