"I just crawled... to say... I love you...
...and I mean it from the rotting of my heart"
The linework for this was done in 2008, around the time I had a laptop catastrophe, and so it ended up getting covered up by the ever-growing pile of work in varying stages. Sometime in 2009 I think I dusted it off and scanned it in to slap some colour on it but was left very unsatisfied with what I'd done. Another year rolls by and I open up the file out of curiosity and I actually felt it wasn't as bad as I thought. Perhaps it was because it wasn't coloured in my usual style? Who knows, I have always been my own harshest critic. Either way, I've dipped in and out of colouring this for months and now here we are, Halloween 2011, and I think she's finally done!
The linework was straight to pen and ink as a challenge, and maybe that's why she's so proportionally stylistic. That and I might have been watching a certain stop-motion animated film around that time of year. So yeah, I hesitate to say directly inspired by, but certainly subconsciously informed by the work of Tim Burton and maybe even a little Jamie Hewlettt.
I make no apologies for paraphrasing Stevie Wonder.
